That sucks. But if they're bad then it's the right call to have a shop worry about it. So they aren't repainting the panels, just buffing? If so, then that's good.

Ya. There are a couple that are deep but it's just way too much to repaint. 400 bucks to wet sand and polish as opposed to 4500 to repaint. It's my own fault though. I deserve it.

Yeah. Repainting will kill you everytime. My friend's passenger door got dented while he was in the store and the insurance company gave him $1,000 to cover it. He ended up deciding not to even get it fixed because he wanted to keep the paint original and I helped him fix the dent. So he ended up with 1,000 bucks in his pocket lol.

After I washed it I decided to go with a professional opinion. It covers such a large area I decided not do it myself. Most are light but there are a few deep ones. I'm going to get it's polished and wet sanded by a body shop. It was an expensive mistake. Here's a lesson for the kids- don't drink and drive because it hurts the ones you love... Like your truck. trucks are meant to go through the woods and get scratched

Does anyone know a website that's popular for older cars? reason I'm asking is because I want to see if I can find a 63 ford fairlane sport coupe from canada that is my dad's old car. They are super rare so I want to see if I can find it. Kind of a shot in the dark I know. Here is a pic of it. I forget the specs of this thing but it was MINT. I can remember little bits and pieces of it when I was a kid.

They are the most popular sites. But it's always hard to track down a particular car. Especially when you need to.

Anyone ever decode their VIN or look it up on a site like www.decodethis.com/ ? Looking it up on a site will get you info on all the options available for the car/truck etc. Figuring out what each individual letter or number means might get you some interesting history. I'll do mine for example... 1G6KF57955U225171 First Character=1: Country built in; 1 for US Second Character=G: Manufacturer; G for General Motors Third Character=6: Division; Division of GM, Cadillac. 1 for Chevy, 4 for Buick, etc Fourth/Fifth Character=KF: Vehicle's trim line; KF is DTS (Deville Touring Sedan) Sixth Character=5: Body Style; 5 for four door sedan Seventh Character=7: Restraint/Airbag System; 7 is for manual seat belts with front/side/rear inflatable airbags Eight Character=9: Engine; 9 for L37 4.6L Ninth Character=5: Check Digit; Means nothing to us Tenth Character=5: Model Year; 5 for 2005 Eleventh Character=U: Plant of production; Hamtramck, Michigan Twelfth-Seventeenth Character=225171: Specific production number of the vehicle for that year; I know the car was built in March of 2005. Production ended May or June of 2005. So it's neat to know my car was probably one of the last few thousand Deville's ever built. service.gm.com/dealerworld/vincards/If you don't know how to decode your VIN it's easy to find info online. Check yours out. If you find anything interesting share it.

Read that Henry Fords son was named Edsel and that they had a falling out. Was this the Edsel car company that was around a long time ago started by his son?

Read that Henry Fords son was named Edsel and that they had a falling out. Was this the Edsel car company that was around a long time ago started by his son? Weird, I watched a Henry Ford Documentary on PBS that talked about Edsel just yesterday. As far as I know, Edsel ran the Ford Motor Company as Official CEO (Henry still actually ran the company) as part of Henry's ploy to re-gain company stock from investors. It seems that he died from undulant fever before Henry did, so Henry resumed official control of the company after his death. how odd. EDIT: Edsel was a line of cars manufactured by Ford between '58 and '60. by that point Edsel had been dead for quite a while, so I think it's safe to say the only thing he contributed was the name.

I watched the same documentary but wasn't able to finish watching! Haha
Good to know Dan. Thanks. I knew it must be somehow connected to Ford, didn't realize that it was an actually subsidiary of Ford Motor Company though. Or that Edsel only contributed the name.

Well I wanted to post an update of my camaro. Two weeks ago the transmission let go in it. I took the car to get inspected, and it passed with flying colors. After work I had to stop for deer, I didn't slam on the brakes as I saw them early enough to slow. I went to hit the accelorator and the car had extreme hesitation. The car would go into reverse, but would not budge even when I got on the torque converter. Supposidly some of the clutches welded together pretty good. Called up the transmission shop where we get the race car transmission worked on. I could get the weak 700R4 tranny rebuilt for 1500, and it could see the track just a few times a year. I am instead going to get a turbo 350 transmission with a reverse manual valve body and a 3000rpm race stall converter for about 1800 bucks. Pretty good deal. I am luck though I worked my ass off during my winter break between semesters and that my 21st birthday is this thursday as I will see some money come my way to help out a bit.
In the mean time my dad was able to fit the camaro into our work garage today while I was at work, so I am going to tinker with it. I want to clean up the wires in the engine bay and under the dash. Then after the tranny is in and good I am going to put in my new exhaust. Already got full length headers, now I just need to buy the parts to fab up the rest of it.
Once I get my ass in gear I will post some pictures of my progress.

I see bad things ahead... If everything will rely on technology, what will happen when it decides to fail, or is "hacked"? I don't trust a computer to drive me, I have enough trust issues letting it store my important information lol. Granted, like you said, computers would probably drive better than the already absent minded idiots on the road. I'd be all for it if it meant that slow-pokes/ignorant drivers would stay out of the left lane when not passing/turning/etc, just keep the crap out of my cars!

Yeah, I wouldn't feel comfortable letting my car drive itself. No matter how fool proof and tested the technology is I just would never be comfortable. Not only for safety reasons but because it just takes the fun out of driving. If you want to sleep or read the paper on the way to work take a bus. Things like parking sensors, rear backup cameras, blind spot monitoring are one thing, but a car driving itself is just taking it to a whole different level. It's just flat out admitting that people are now incapable of driving themselves anymore lol. This technology will be built upon, and after a few more model generations you'll literally be able to get in your car, push a button and it will drive you where you want to go.
Scary to think what the world will be like in a few decades, if stuff like this is already upon us.

Most cars here are sprayed with underbody coating when new to prevent rust. Atleast the under body on my truck is almost in perfect condition after 24 years. The coating on the frame behind the driver side front wheel has peeled off and started to rust from a small area though. It had rusted a lot more than i first though and its going to require welding now that i went and jacked it up from that spot without looking -___- But its funny. The truck is in better condition from underneath than above.

Most vehicles around here have plenty of rust if you look for it. Especially sedans that are low to the ground. The cheap salt they use around here in the winter is definitely a killer. This car was bought new and kept in Florida for it's first 4 years which means no corrosive road salt. But the humidity and sea air down there can actually cause severe rust. As far as I'm aware advanced rust prevention from the factory on the undercarriage (in the form of a spray) is very rare on cars sold in North America. All I've heard of is dealerships selling a "protection package" or something like that for an extra $500-$1000 bucks and they spray something. Anyway I'm not worried about this car getting any worse with rust. I'll most likely be looking to lease a new or buy a very lightly used sedan in a couple years. If I have a new place and the driveway space I'll keep the Deville though.

Its really the salt brine that kills the cars anymore, the stuff reeks havoc with brake lines especially. I think auto manufactures are starting to improve the rust protection a bit. I noticed when changing my oil this weekend that my brake lines on my Cruze are coated with thick paint instead of being bare metal as they usually are.
