MESA, AZ: A Mesa woman was arrested Friday after allegedly trying to drown her 3-year-old son in a puddle. According to court documents, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department got a call around 12:30 from a man saying he heard a child screaming.The man told police when he went outside to see what was going on, he saw Victoria Soliz on her knees in his front yard pushing a toddler's face into a puddle as if trying to drown him.The man told officers he confronted Soliz and told her to stop, but she kept going so he called police. The man said she moved to a larger puddle and did it again several more times. She then started giving the toddler what appeared to be CPR.Officers arrived at the scene near 79th Place and Broadway Road and took Soliz into custody.The 3-year-old was taken to the hospital to receive medical treatment. Court documents indicate the toddler was shivering from being in the cold and wearing water soaked clothing.Soliz was also taken to the hospital. While being treated, she told one of the doctors that she had been using Methamphetamine to self-medicate her schizophrenia.She also told the doctor that "Jesus" told her to "drown" her son. When detectives interviewed Soliz, she said that she was out with her child, but she didn't know where she was going.She also said that she didn't know how she ended up in the front yard, but that her son became stuck to the ground and that he was affected by some kind of electrical shock. She said that she put water on his face and that he began choking, so she performed CPR.Soliz is currently facing felony child abuse charges.The child's condition is unknown at this time.
