I was looking around on Youtube and found something quite shocking. The Freightliner Argosy is still sold in North America, but only as a glider kit. Still, I guess those of us who like cabovers can still find a product that fits our style.
Here's the video.
And another.

It isn't the greatest looking truck, but hey, at least it's a cabover. I like the Aussie version better, personally.

I hate ALL new truck, like Peterbilt 579, Kenworth T680 or T700. Those are not truck as they are suppose to be! They do those truck for the drivers, more comfortable but they don't have the looks of a Pete 379; Square. It my opinion. If they want to attract new drivers, its not with round truck like those, Some people like those! Everyone is different with different choice. I dont want to see in 10 or 15 years, when the 379 or Nat, Freightliner or other old school trucks will get out and i dont say that ALL old truck will get out, but some will and company will buy newer truck and it will continue that way. I just hate the way its going. Again, It my opinion!

I'd drive any argosy, new or old, as long as it's a cabover, can use some more of those on the road.

Being a truck driver is hard enough as it is, but having to blow even more cash on diesel just to have a "box-style" truck is useless IMO. These newer rigs save money. That is what is needed to live, not "style" and "looks". If they want to attract drivers, they need to find a way to keep things rolling but allowing the drivers to be home more often. I don't see why you guys dislike this rig so much. It really looks good and I would definitely drive it.

You guys don't have much to worry about as far as seeing them in force on the roads in North America. Most dealers won't offer it and you'll have to search for (and have a good relationship with) a dealer to actually order one. According to most dealers, it's not available in North America and only available for the Aussie market (the new model is the same for NA and AUS, the one above is the old model Agrosy), but there have been several sightings. 1 in PA and several in Canada. I say all this to say that while it would be really cool to see some COEs back on the road, Freightliner tested its acceptance into the market at MATS last year and didn't really get the numbers necessary to offer on a huge basis.

I should have clarified. But the one in the video is the 2012 model. I actually like the previous edition's looks more than the 2012's. And to agree with Seb, I am growing tired of all the new models too. I know they have to look a certain way to meet up with the new EPA fuel economy standards, but they are all beginning to look the same: blobs of plastic and metal that have no style, beauty, or form. I guess you have the choice between 7 mpg and an aero-model or 5 and a classic. Most people are going with their pocketbook, and you can't really blame them.

You could get 7 mpg out a classic extended hood truck...with proper tuning of course

The whole argument on the New trucks are better then old trucks is BS. It's actually cheaper to fix that old "boxy" truck up then to deal with all the problems these new trucks like the 587 are having with their motors. Everyone I know that has bought a truck since 07 with a CUMMINS in it, has had to get a new motor at 200k. This includes a 07 Cummins and a couple 2010 Cummins. The detroit dd15s are even junk. And the CATS are just not there anymore. The Paccars seem to not be having as many problems as before, but they are still there. If you guys look at a 389 it looks nothing like a 379 so stop comparing the 2 as they aren't the same truck.
Just to give you an idea, I can go take a series 60 detroit get 7mpg with it with a 379 Pete with a 300" wheelbase, and when it blows up itll cost me about 12 grand to over haul.
I can take the same truck put a CAT in it, 6nz lets say, and I will avg 5mpg and itll cost me 25k to rebuild. Same with cummins.

Hoods are on their way out weather you like it or not. Soon you'll see who the real truckers are and who's just in it to drive one of those "cool" boxy hoods. Sure I like hoods just as much as the rest of you, but trucking is about getting your cargo from point A to point B safely and efficiently. Since this topic is kinda getting off track I will comment on the Argosy. I happen to really like the NA Argosy and I hope that maybe they will be in larger production in the future. Cab overs are great for alot of specialized trucking such as haulin windmills and pulling 57' trailers.
