So I was thinking of buying a video card. I was gonna buy a ATI radeon HD 4550 for $100 CDN at future shop today but decided to check out some other card. I want a card that supports more than 6X anti aliasing and 16X antistropic filtering. Here's my specs. I don't need to really upgrade these as I already did today, although my power supply looks a little tired.
Power: 545W , forget the brand HDD: western digital 500GB, forget the speeds Graphics: ATI radeon x1650 PCI-e 512mb RAM: 4GB of drr2 Processor: Pentium D X2 @ 3.00MGHz
Yes my motherboard has a pci-e slot, but only 1 so crossfire is out of the question. I don't wanna spend more than $200, hopefully only $150 at the most. And I sorta want a nvidia, but they're considerably more expensive for the same spec'd ATI cards, but I'll take suggestions on them anyways.

if you want a card under 200 bucks, (and id recommend nvidia), probably what you should do is just go down to the store and ask them what the best card they can bring in for around that price is. Maybe youll settle for something in the 230 buck range just cause its too good to pass up. But I mean, if you plan on playing Rig'n'Roll you should aim maybe a little higher then 200 bucks. Id like to tell you that your power supply is kind of weak. I have a 530 watt and it seems to be fucking my whole system over. If you have the coin, try going for something in the 700watt range.
and cedric he only has i pciE slot so he cant have more then 1 card. his board doesnt support SLI.. correct me if im wrong. Also, don't you need to have a nvidia compatible board to put a nvidia card in? I think so..

I didn't know that about the motherboards. Forget that then, I don't wanna buy a whole new motherboard as I only have limited money right now since I ain't working. But, thanks for the suggestions. And yeah I only have 1 slot, so no SLI for me. Honestly, I might just buy another x1650. They're dirt cheap now and it supports everything i use it for just fine. The only bad part about ATI as it has poor openGL capabilities. And as you know, haulin runs with openGL. Therefor, new drivers can't be installed unless I run haulin with low reflections, or "upgrade" to a newer SCS game like ALH. I dunno I was hoping to get a good nvidia card but fuck that noise if I gotta buy a new motherboard.

Well, I dunno if I just old you guys (yes, I did), I don't have a motherboard that will work with that card. Unless you want to gladly show me proof it will work. I'm not being a guinea pig, I wanna know for sure if my intel motherboard can take it.

Definitely don't get a newer ATI card, they don't work. Remember my whole situation of my 'great' 4850?
'Prism3d has encountered an error' is all they're good for. I'd say either go for nVidia, or stick with the x1650. I'm still running mine, after at least 2-3 years, and it's still running perfectly!

I'm really gonna check out the 8800GTS, because it will fit perfectly and I don't have to buy a new power supply or anything to fit it well. And mitch you're right, mine still works great.

i got a Ultra 550 watt lifetime power supply. runs VERY quiet, and also has a lifetime warranty. my graphics card is a nvidia 9800GT 512mb overclocked. it runs like a charm. never had any probs with it. and i along with most others do recommend nvidia only.

Well I forgot to mention my bus type is 1.0. But good news is lots of card are backwards compatible for that, even the one derrick posted. And I was reading about that and seems that will have no effect on any performance of the card.
And I also forgot to mention, I live in canada. I ain't gonna buy from tigerdirect because it'll end up costing me over $200 because of shipping and rarely we get the same deals up here as opposed to down there

Yeah fuck, I can't afford one of these anymore. Oh well, I'll look for this thread for future reference if I need it. Thanks for the help. Money goes so fast these days....... oh well, IDC. As long as I have my car, clothes on my back, and some food I don't care.
