Its not just Xbox, its both consoles. The whole system just cannot handle the load. I estimate a week, at least, till this get sorted. I was able to get on with some friends to play some missions but after that, I couldn't do anything. I think I will just go back to playing single player.

Just lost my level 16 character, still have my money though. Supposedly Rockstar is trying to figure out why people are losing their characters. i'd give Rockstar a hint, its their damn cloud based system, should have created the system so it saves individual player's progress on their harddrive. I am still holding out that my character will be restored but I doubt it. I am done playing online until rockstar has this sorted, if they ever do. They are saying they will compensate players who have been affected... I'll believe it when I see it.

I actually am not a huge fan of online. The only way it could be decent is with friends, but random games suck.

Its something to do, I like creating my own private online sessions, plus a lot of my online buddies are playing. I was just about to buy a nice apartment and the game decided to freeze so hard that I literally had to pull the plug on my xbox to get it to shut down. I heard character loss is from freezes, hitting the retry connection button, and temporary characters. Whether or not my character get restored, I will start playing again when rockstar has everything under control. Until then I am playing offline or spending my time in other games/having a life again.
I am just trying to figure out why game developers are thinking cloud saving is a good idea, atleast have the game save a backup copy on the local hardware every once and a while. I am also trying to figure out why Rockstar didn't have a closed beta or something to figure this stuff out before hand.

I guess it's time to bring this thread back to life now that GTA V is out! I preordered a week ago, got it yesterday via Steam. I didn't have any of the storage issues that other people were having since I installed everything on a 1TB USB drive (my internal SSD is only 100GB and I wanted to save it for other things). Downloaded it at my school so the 59GB download only took me 25 minutes. It does take over an hour for Steam to unpack the encrypted files if you preloaded the game so consider yourself warned.
Since I'm coming from Xbox 360, the PC version is a MASSIVE improvement in every way. Textures are way more detailed, draw distance is exponentially better, and there's 3x the graphics settings to play with. It'll be a bit of a drag playing through the storyline for the 5th time but Online holds my attention more since I didn't have it with the Xbox.
I'll be posting screenshots once I get a chance to upload them. The game is a bit of a pain to setup and properly optimize like many Rockstar games but trust me, it's worth every penny of that $60.

I have also gone from the 360 version to PC. Had absolutely no issues installing it other than it keeps warning me that my laptop specs are below the recommended. I haven't had much time to play, but it runs really well on medium high settings.

I'd love to throw $60 bucks at it, but I probably won't buy it till it gets down to $30 or so. Funds are a bit tight with saving up for truck paint, graduation, protein powder and other misc that's just annoying. One day I'll get it, but yeah not for awhile. I'd love to see how it runs on my 980...
