About time, not enough range imo. You can already drive at 18, take the same tests, but can't leave the state. 18 year old are in 2% more accidents than 21 year olds. That's not truckers stats, that's real stats from the insurance companies. Not to mention, at 18 you can die for your country, or drive a loaded truck in another country, but you can't go 2 miles outside your state in a class a vehicle? wtf is that shit? Most of the good, or old school truckers now started driving at or before 18, why am I any different then they were?

It doesn't really effect me anymore because I'm already with a company and less than a year away from my class A at 21, but I think it's fine. It's no different than the 35 year old CR England driver that's been driving for 2 weeks, BUT THAT'S OK, he's 35! Most 18 year olds that want to drive a truck, are either driving anyways or just don't leave the state. What do state lines matter?

That's kind of how I feel. I drove for a small company for a couple months until it got so slow I literally couldn't afford to stay there, and when I was there, I was told by numerous people including my boss that I drive better than most of the guys that have been there a while and been driving a while.

I saw this on one Facebook page and EVERYONE was not happy about it. Its been like that in Canada for many many years and no one complains about it. I could get my Class 1 (CDL) at 18 but the company that would hire me is very rare..

It's stupid, because most of the people who are against it, if you ask them how they started, they were driving at or before 18 anyway.. Fucking assholes think they're better than everyone else because they're not 18 anymore.

I see no problems with the idea and I agree with Colonel. I knew quite a few guys in the military that were under 18 and were joining as I was just about to be put out ( unknowingly ) because we were training them left and right as Rep 63's before they left for basic. If a man can die for his country he should be able to buy beer and drive a damn truck too if he or she so please. The only problem is that the government dont see it that way. ( Civilian Government ) I should say to be more specific. They think these young men are to irresponsible to take on such a demanding task such as driving a huge ass heavy truck. They may be right in some cases but that should be determined by the person / persons who are training them and hiring them imo because we did things that way in the military.
