1996 Ford Explorer with the modular 302 engine. When purchased, it needed a water replacement but it turned into a new timing cover replacement as well. Had to rip the Timing cover off after one of the bolts for the water pump snapped off from rusting well. After struggling to get the seal off by going on the inside to pull it forward. After I pushed the lip of the seal off, it popped off easily...that little bitch And spun out and this happened, it's currently sitting at a body shop waiting for estimates. It's my project truck so I'm not letting it go so easily lol. I'll post more pictures up when I get it back.

Penetrating oil is your friend, especially on steel bolts threaded into aluminum. I've broken exhaust manifold bolts off a 3.0 V6 several years back, shits not fun. Thankfully the heads were coming off anyway so I could drill them out. Edit: wait, what the hell? My phone's brightness was turned down, I just noticed that's a disc in the rear...the hub just separated and ripped the hat off the rotor?! Wow.

Googled it and wow, it is a Windsor 302, is it possible to make it a Boss 302 lol? Anyway, yeah and it tweaked the right side of the axle housing so I have to get a new one. It's sitting at the body shop on jack stands right now but if my insurance wants to junk it then I'm saying hell no. They're trying to give me the 3.55 gear ratio axle housing but it has the 3.73 (8.8) gear ratio on it still and I'm Joe Dirt poor right now so I can't afford to reprogram the computer lol. I found one of Jegs for $1,370 and that's the axle housing with the posi track in it. It'll be turned into a 4WD by the way and I'm going to put manual locking hubs on it.

May as well post here, kind of felt pointless since no one does this anymore but that would just make me part of the problem. Finally found myself a decent 1st gen Explorer last month and went for it. It's a '94 XLT with 188,000 miles on it, over 500 put on it since I bought it. It got a remanufactured long block at 146,500 and transmission at 185,600. The guy put a lot of money into keeping it going which will make it easier for me to maintain without causing future problems. I can do a transmission flush when I'm supposed to instead of it being done at 150,000 miles and losing all the seals. Still better and smarter than being able to brag that it still has the original drivetrain in it. Don't care. The damn thing's almost as old as I am, I just want it to be in a good of shape as possible for its age and give it longevity from here on out. I've already had to replace the oxygen sensor on bank 1, the wiring was rednecked back together with crimp connections and was starting to throw off the feedback voltages to the PCM so it was running like shit or not at all on that side. Got plenty of plans to get this thing back to factory condition, needs new chrome and lights all around and a spare tire for starters, and some rust removal and a paintjob is in order too.

That's a nice looking truck! To bad over here the road tax is undo-able for these things. Especially diesel powered ones.

First time towing since I installed a new hitch and wiring harness. Probably for the first time in years, for that matter. Not much weight to brag about, but enough for the engine to notice. It was fun. IMG_0874 by Jon Warrell, on Flickr

May as well post this one. It's from last year, after washing it. Nothing has really changed on it since then. It's actually been through a lot last year since my dad's Expedition's been out of commission. Hit 200,000 miles in September on the way back from one of the multiple 320 mile round trips to the mountains I made last summer. Still got a few things left to do on it before I get it inspected again.
