That's the bullshit I'm talking about. try having like 30 min left on your hours and needing about 45 to make it home. That pisses my grandpa off so bad when that happens.

Like I already said, can't blame the Elog, the only difference is with the logbook you cheat. Man up, admit what you're doing and take the fine that comes with it! You'd be out of hours anyway, Elog or not. I know a lot of drivers over here who who park up and call it a day 30 min away from home to max out their mileage due to our HOW rules.

That's so stupid. Of course I'm going to cheat my logs to get home, because there's no way I'm spending the night in the truck 30 min from home without getting payed anything extra and with the ability to make it home very easily. Fuck HOS and fuck dot. That's not manning up that's being stupid. Without elogs I can spend the night at home and take a shower and be well rested for the next day, with elogs I'm forced to spend yet another night of what might have been a long time on the road without a shower and knowing I'm so close, then I will wake up and be ready to go just to get home and burn the more hours that next day at home if I have the day off, or maybe not get to stop because the only way I could stop is if I made it there in time for my break. Then there's why I didn't make it, they say plan your trip, but what happens if earlier that day there was an accident and it shut me down in traffic for an hour and a half. Now, you could go back and add your 30 min break in somewhere in there to make up part of it, but you've still lost an hour of driving time, and that would be enough to get you home in time, but because you're out of service with your elog you're fucked, and without elogs I could get home and still look legal and really be pretty much legal, but the only person who would know is me. We don't get to choose which laws to open and which to ignore, but I'm not going to obey that law if that's my dilemma. So we have that, then there's the fact that it's unconstitutional for the government to impose such legislation as it is over the heads of the state governments who are to regulate interstate commerce, and then we have the fact that not everyone wants them and not everyone should be required to have them. There is also the expense, and fmcsa estimates it will cost the owner operator i think between 300 and 800 extra for elds but supposedly you can recoop that(bs because you have to have a printer and paper for said printer, and with paper logs it's just one book a month) but then estimates from outside the fmcsa are between 1500 and 3000 if I remember right, maybe a little less but over 1000 to a couple thousand to convert to eld. I don't know about the aps, and I haven't heard anything about them from any of the reports I've read so that's still on the table. You will likely have to pay a one time fee for the app and then monthly subscriptions for the service. Overall, it's just another way for the industry to be regulated. Yes, in some heavily slanted statistics it makes it safer, but in real world application we still do not know because as I said, the stats we have are slanted.

I've heard that some "official" ways are by using phone apps. Looks like I'll be running 2 phones if I ever buy a truck newer than 2000. 1984 is treating me quite well.
You're also required to keep a paper book in case your Elog quits on you. Whos to say it worked or didn't work before I got DOT'd?
"Nah officer, that damn thing went out on me about 4 hours ago and hasn't come back on since...here's my log book"

This is exactly why it will eventually catch up with you guys just like it did over here..!! 15 years ago the goverment told the trucking industry to start paying attention to the HOS rules (back then we had a log device drawing driving and breaks/resting hours onto a tin foiled paperdisc, ran for 24 hours so we replaced it each day), when breaking the rules a little too much people just "lost" the paperdisc from that day, each missing disc would cost you a 100 bucks, problem solved. There was usually way too many discs missing so they told the industry to take it a bit more seriously. No one listened, kept doing what they've always done. 5 years later they haD ENOUGH, The industry refused to listen, fines was multiplied by 6, missing disc is now 600 bucks + 1 point on your driving record. 3 points will get your driving license suspended unless you pass the theory test and driving test within a certain time (the points will stay on your record for 3 years, then deleted) 6 points and your license is suspended for 6 - 12 month depending on violation you've done (a suspended license here is everything, not just your CDL, it's everything! You're back to either pushbikes or a moped!). When suspending time is done you call the driving school and take a new theory and driving test, then you can start driving a vehicle again. Violate any HOS rules by more 30% or more nad you get 3 points straight away (we're allowed 9 hours of driving a day, hit 12 hours, BOOM! Dayli resting time is 11 hours which is to be held within 24 hours from your day begin, shorten it by more than 1 hour and it's considered not held at all which means driving hours will now be added up with the ones from yesterday, makes it quite easy to hit 12 hours). The paperdisc device was outphased on new trucks almost 10 years ago when we got a new device similar to the Elog, why? Because people threw away the paperdiscs! The paperdisc device replaced the logbook around 35-40 years ago, why? Because the industry said the exact same thing as I quoted Colonel above. To be honest, I don't give a rats ass what's gonna happen. I'm just letting you know we went thru the same years ago because our industry refused to listen to the warnings they've been given Over here everyone said "If they're gonna enforce that shit we're gonna stay at home for at least a week" (it will shut down everything within a few days), they been saying it for 15 years and so far it's just empty words...................................................... They'll never agree to do it and I bet niether will you..!!

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'd like to think the good eggs in the industry can stand together if they're motivated and organized.

They should be! But the question is, who are the "good eggs"??
IMO they should stop fighting the Elog, after it's basically just a tool making it easier for the driver keeping track of his HOS. Instead they should start fighting the real problem which is the HOS rules which are somewhat way to "stiff" to work with..!!

I also want to know who's paying to put something in my truck that I was perfectly fine with running without.
I've had to look over and monitor elogs for the company I work for, if you're the one in charge and yore an O/O an have the password to the logging software, you can change them to read whatever you want. I've Done it before.

My right to free enterprise is already violated enough last thing I need is someone forcing me to pay for equipment that does what I can already do just as easy.

All I can add to this is " If you want to wine and cry about being regulated and wanna be a big boy trucker and run till your hands become a permanent part of the steering wheel and your ass is so numb your nut sack is starting to tingle then join the fucking ARMY." There are no HOS rules nor any damn Elogs or anything else regulating you. It's a damn good paycheck retirement is great and all medical is covered. Stop bitching about the shit. It could be much worse. Just my personal opinion so don't get your panties in a bunch.

I think Bora lives in utopia. Mind if I move out there with you? Haha. Nah, in a perfect world there would be no need for Elog or logbook cause everyone would go by the rules no matter how stupid they are

In a perfect world we wouldn't need rules, because people would know what to and not to do without being told.
