Well, this thing is starting to piss me off. I have to drop this drive shaft before I can get it home since the old owner dumped the clutch. I managed to get the covers off, but I can't budge that damn pin at all. I tried locking the shaft and using a floor jack to use the trucks weight to force it out, but all I ended up doing was lifting the back axle off the ground... So, There's times I've thought "Damn, what the fuck did I get myself into..." But when I sit in it, feel the truck run and look out over that hood and know that it's mine I don't regret a damn thing. Can't wait to get it where I can hook my "buffer" grinder up to some power, along with my pressure washer...The filth is really bothering me.

I really hope you enjoy this project cause with all do respect it looks like it it's able to drain a wallet real quick. But doesn't really matter anyway, it's your wallet Seems to me there's a long way to go so I just hope you don't get sick of it before you've finished it, good luck with your project, seems you might need it

That's what we're doing this weekend. Gonna take our torch over and heat it up.
And yep Sam I did take the caps out of both sides
And Bora, how right you are lol! This thing is something I've wanted my whole life and I finally got it after close to 19 years. This truck will be on the cover of magazines, cat scale cards and calendars when she's done. When people see this truck, they're going to know exactly what truck it is and who owns it.
Wanted to build a truck my whole life and there's no way I'm giving up now!

Lots of people run out of money and desire before they finish em. Definitely make it all road worth first and add on as you make dem $'s! haha

What Colonel said. It's best to road worthy it first, get on with loads, THEN do the modifications. No need to break the bank right off the bat. Especially with how old it is, now I know that we run some old raggidy shit, but they have paid for them self double over

It's getting fixed before anything. I'm buying a cutoff rear end with low air leaf Pete suspension and good 3.36 or 3.55 rear ends for it. Gonna have the frame done as one of my first things. It wouldn't even pass DOT the way it is now. After I get the frame done ill have my boxes and tanks and everything where I want them allowing me to get my stacks.
I'll probably get a few things here and there but nothing major until that's done. I gotta get a visor for it though. Gotta get that tough truck look. New roof cap also. This old 3 piece is leaking.

Torch the bolts out or heat them up first. Waste of time to even try to undo any bolts in something that old and rusty without having a torch next to you. And better get used to filth if you're going to be working on trucks..

And better get used to filth if you're going to be working on trucks.. All the bolts are out. And I'm use to filth but not unnessecary filth. This truck hasn't seen a truck wash in years. There's 2" of dirt caked on the frame. That's not right.

I would just cut the u-joint with the torch, not worth trying to get it out if you're not saving the rear end at all. It's another option and I've done it enough times, it's a real dirty job. Too bad you didn't have the proper puller or access to one.

That's my worst comes to worst outcome, just cut the U-joint. I was wanting to rebuild the rear ends and sell them depending on what's wrong, and cuttong the U joint would screw some of it over. Anywhere that I could rent it for trucks? I know auto parts stores rent tools but not that big.

Cutting it won't really hurt it if you can cut pretty good with a torch, the shitty thing is the grease inside will catch fire but just let it burn up. Heating the yoke would do more damage cause you could end up bending the ears apart then a u-joint would never fit. Try asking a local truck shop to see if you could borrow one

Like Nathan said just be sure your damn good with a torch if that's what you gotta do, or get your boilermaker friend to help you out.

I don't want to do that but it might end up being what I have to do.
I'm leaning towards buying an entire wrecked truck vs just a cutoff. Use the frame and sell/scrap everything else. If not I'm going to have new rails made, put the rear ends and newer suspension on, newer steer axle with air bags, having all the holes already drilled for my 150's, boxes and everything, and having the entire frame rhino lined blue. might be expensive, but salt wouldn't have shit on me.
Point being here, have the new frame DONE before I ever even take the truck off the current frame. Only transfer the hood, cab, motor and transmission and sell/scrap the rest.

Any restoration/modification breaks the wallet. This at least has a one up that in the end it will make some money.

I've got some ideas for the frame. Just the frame of this truck will be like nothing you've ever seen before if I can get it done right. That's probably the first major thing to get done on this truck. Frame will be DONE before the cab and hood even touch it. Also toying with the idea of upgrading to an air-to-air C model with a mechanical pump. My strong running A would be a good core too.
Some of these things will be "swapped out" so to say, like the rear ends, I'm going to get some off a wrecked truck, then sell the ones I have, giving me sort of a discount of the newer ones. Same goes for the tanks if I don't keep them as water tanks for my sleeper.
Also going to call the dealer that sold the truck new and see if just by chance they have any records or pictures of it when it was new, or maybe get me in contact with the original owner.

Their stronger bearings and shot are better. A B model is a fine engine, but I prefer mechanical C if I can find them.
