As some of you may know, I bought a 359 as a project truck. It has most of the things I was looking for as a base truck. (EXHD, Cat, duel air cleaners, good dash, etc) This will be pretty similar to Mic's thread about his Ranger rebuild. Since this is something that interests all of us I figured I'd share it with you guys. Here's my specs. 3406A Cat Eaton 13 speed with overdrive Extended hood duel air cleaners rooftop AC condenser 36" off of a 370 series dirt 1 bad rear end (old driver dumped the clutch) and more dirt. Here's what I'm starting out with. (Damn I love this pic) Like I said, this is pretty much a documentation thread and to show the transformation of an American classic.

hot damn shes rough around the edges on the outside, but looks damn good on the inside. I think if you brush off some of that dirt it will do her good.

I doubt the shifter is broken, it's most likely bent back to stop from hitting the trailer brake bar by the steering wheel.
My 82' has that issue when shifting, I always jam my fingers

It's bent back for that reason, It's loose though so you can move it around, it'll face the passenger side sometimes, and the sleeper, etc. I also found 2 more of those shifters in the truck but they have a different pattern on them which kinda makes me wonder what transmission it really has. Havn't taken it outa reverse or low yet. All 3 are 13 speed, but the one on the truck is different than the others. Never drove a 3-deck transmission before so it'll be kinda interesting. Replaced the axle gasket today, as you can see, the one on it was fucked... And here...here's you one polished wheel James60470

Get close to it and you'll probably think otherwise. The body is pretty good except for the roof cap, but damn near all 359's leaked. Gonna get a fiberglass one for it. Frame is my main problem. Frame is fucked. Going to get a cutoff rear end from a newer truck, low air leaf Pete, 3.36 or 3.55 Eatons with air ride on the front too.

From what i can see it looks like a good start for a rebuild, but now i gotta ask, did it and will it have stacks?

It'll have duel 150's under the sleeper, boxes under the cab and twin 8" miters as tall as the law will allow.

Gonna get a new grill/shroud or knock the dents out of them? I'm going to see if I can only get the crown. The dent is the screen itself. The shroud on the sides are fine. There's a dent in the top but I'm going to get a new one anyways just so it doesn't have the holes from that POS bug screen in it.

You plan on sticking with the 36" bunk or are you going to get something a little bigger so you don't feel like you're in a coffin?

@bulldog
The condenser cover will stay on the roof, gonna put some blue rope lights inside it. Need to get it redone though.
If I did stick with a 36" I'd get one off of a 359, but I'm going with a double eagle.
