Alright guys, well since the FS modding world is totally different than the truck sim world, I thought I'd start a thread to share some of the knowledge I've gained over the past few months that can help all of you who are starting to play FS.
So, let me start off by saying that Farming Simulator has a few forums scattered about, some of which are quite large (FS-UK has over 160,000 members and American Eagles Modding has about 12 thousand or so), but the main places I get my mods from are not these forums.
In addition to forums, we have dozens of sites with thousands and thousands of FS mods, variety that sometimes is too much.
Here are a couple worth noting:
Modhoster
Probably the biggest source of FS mods in the world: not everything is good quality, so make sure you pay attention to the ratings and featured mods. The featured and five-star mods on there are about as good as anywhere, but they are scattered among a bunch of not-so-great mods.
Ls-Portal.eu
A decent site with some of the same stuff as Modhoster, but they tend to catch more of the rare mods posted on foreign sites. Pretty decent quality and reliable ratings as well.
One of the weird phenomenons in the FS modding world is what could be referred to as the trickle-down effect. Simply put, mod teams or freelance modders and independent mod editors are at the top of the mountain per se. Most of these individuals have FB pages of some kind, and many of them post links directly on those pages. Once enough people see a mod posted on a FB page, someone will download the mod, and post it typically on one of the many modding sites that are completely in a foreign language, be that Russian, Lithuanian, Portuguese, French, Czechoslovakian, or Polish. After a few days, the most popular mods on these sites trickle down further to sites like ls2013.com and ls-portal.eu, and finally after a couple months or so, some of these mods may eventually trickle down to lower rung sites like Modhoster and so on.
But this phenomenon also works in reverse as well. If I see a mod on Modhoster with an uploaded.net link, I can typically find that same mod on a foreign site with an unlimited download link, and that's where I'll get it from.
But anyways, as I get time, I'll try to add more info to this thread for those of you playing FS, and I may start a mods-to-note thread as well with links to mod feature pages on a variety of sites. We'll see about that.
And as always, if you have an FS question about my mods, alternative links to mods you have found, or FS modding in general, buzz me with a PM. I'll try to answer your question as best as I can.
Best regards and Happy farming.
